Alberta was born in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Timothy McGahee, Sr. and the late Nora Bell Anderson McGahee.

She is a graduate of Martin County High School. Alberta received a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of Florida in Gainesville. She also has a Masters Degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University in Virginia.

Alberta is married to Joseph Reid,Sr. and together they have three children, Joseph,II, Brandy and Blair.

She is employed as an Early Intervention Specialist.

Alberta "Bert" is the sister and adopted daughter to Reverend and Mrs. John A. Thorne.
