Obituary for Deacon William Mitchell

Mr. William Mitchell, 75, of Okeechobee, FL passed away peacefully at St. Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie, FL.

He was born in Rimini, SC (Clarendon County, SC) to the parents of the late George and Virginia McFadden Mitchell on September 20,1944. William was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County.
During his lifetime, he was employed at T&P Plastering for over 20 years and has over 50 years of masonry experience. He had an insatiable passion for restoring homes.

He was a member of First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church in Okeechobee, FL where he served as a deacon. His activities included but was not limited to memberships and positions held in various religious, political, fraternal and charitable organizations. He was an avid fisherman and made catfish stew and chowder that was out of this world! Mr. Mitchell was an outdoors-man who loved the water and travelling to visit his family.

On Wednesday, July 22, 2020 a 7:47 am, he peacefully departed this life. Along with his parents, Grorge and Virginia Mitchell, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Audrey L James and a brother, Robert Mitchell.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a devoted wife of 44 years, Velma Jean Mitchell of Okeechobee, FL; 8 sons, Michael (Saheeda) Stokes of Titusville, FL, Gregory (Shonda) Reese of Rockledge, FL, William "Lorenzo" (Doris) Mitchell of Lawrenceville, GA, James "Bernard" Mitchell of Titusville, FL, Corneluis Mitchell of Okeechobee, FL, Stanley (LaSara) Mitchell of Statesboro, GA, Nicholas (Angela) Mitchell of Phoenix City, AL, and Jeremy Cotton of Raleigh, NC; 2 daughters, Bernice James of Rockledge, FL and Deborah Williamson of Sanford FL; a godson, Bryant Adderley of Fort Pierce, FL; 2 goddaughters, Tomika Futch of Clearwater, FL and Adrianna Sol of Okeechobee, FL; 19 grandchildren, Jmine Reese, Jessica Reese, Demarcukus Reese, Essence Reese, Gregory Reese Jr., Constance Reese, Michael Stokes II, Christina Stokes, Cheresa Skanes, Rajheem Wells, Jessie “Jalen” Cooper, Sydney Mitchell, L’Tavius Mitchell, Davion Drayton, Trinity Mitchell, Gabrielle Mitchell, Chloe Mitchell, James Bernard Mitchell, Jamir Mitchell; 8 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers, Moses (Dollie) Mitchell of Rimini, SC, James (Frances) Mitchell of Jacksonville, FL, Samuel Mitchell of Bowie, MD, Clayburn (Sharon) Mitchell of Bergenfield, NJ and Bert (Barbra) Pugh of Thomasville, NC; 2 sisters Georgia Mae Mitchell of Baltimore, MD and Carolyn (Amos) Holliday of Bowie, MD; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at First Baptist MBC, 11am - with Pastor Leroy Smith, officiating. Burial will follow in South Carolina. Viewing will be held one hour before service time at the church.

Local arrangements have been eentrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Sruart, FL.

Burial will take place at Greater St. Phillips URME Church Cemetery in Pinewood, SC., King-Fields Mortuary is in charge of out of town arrangements. The address is, 3 Larry King Street, Summerton, SC 29148.
