Obituary for Vickie R. Newton

Ms. Vickie R. Newton, 48 of Ft. Pierce, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at the home of her mother, surrounded by the love of family and friends. She was born on January 31, 1960 in Ft. Pierce to the parents of Victor K. and Annie Ruth (nee Gandy) Newton. Vickie attended the public schools of Saint Lucie County and graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School in the Class of 1978. Immediately after that she enrolled in cosmetology at the Fort Pierce Beauty Academy and graduated in 1979. She was a licensed hair stylist and owner of Kwanza Beauty Salon in Ft. Pierce, which was a very successful business venture. Being the industrialist that she was, Vickie also owned a first class ladies boutique which carried the latest in designer clothing, hats and other accessories. Vickie was an accomplished seamstress, milliner, and just plain good at every talent that the Lord blessed her with. She was a class act all by herself and everything that she did was done with class, style and as close to perfection as she could get it! She proved that if you worked hard, by the grace of God, all things were possible! She was a member of the 13th Street Church of God Greater Faith in Ft. Pierce. She was preceded in death by her loving father, Victor R. Newton. Survivors include: a devoted mother, Annie Ruth Newton of Ft. Pierce; two loving brothers, Victor A. Newton (LaCheryl) and Vincent C. Newton both of Ft. Pierce; 5 caring sisters, Juliet D. Newton of Vero Beach, FL, Curlene M. Williams (Abraham Jerome) of Lakeland, FL, Mary Lynn Newton of Oslo, FL, Felicia D. Newton (whom she reared as her daughter) of Orlando, FL and Cassandra Johnson of Port Saint Lucie, FL; godmother, Minister Ceola Kitt and godsister, Cassandra Kitt of Ft. Pierce, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends including a devoted friend, Ruth Anderson Stubbs (John) and her family of Port Salerno, FL who will certainly miss the love that she shared, candor, straight-forwardness, sense of style and warm Bahamian smile. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6, 2008 from 5-8pm at 13th Street Church of God Greater Faith. "A Homegoing Celebration" will be observed at 11:00am on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the church with Reverend Alfred Patton, Officiating, Bishop John T. Archer is Pastor and Bishop Earlist Green, Presiding. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, Ft. Pierce, FL. Thorne's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
