Obituary for Sarah Coats

Ms. Sarah Coats, an 88 year old resident of Jacksonville, FL went home to be with the Lord (two months and twenty-five days after the passing of her sister, Elizabeth E. Williams), on September 12, 2008 at Edgewood Nursing Center in Jacksonville, FL. She had been a resident of Jacksonville for over 60 years moving from Georgia. She was born in Coffee County, Georgia to the parents of the late Julius and Cecelia-Paulk Eldell. She attended the public schools of Coffee County, Georgia. Ms. Coats was a member of Mount Arrarat Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor David Lattimore. She was employed before her retirement at a dry cleaning business, working as a presser. Ms. Coat was married to the late Mr. Booker T. Coats who preceded her in death in December 1983. Although she bore no children of her own, her devoted niece, Gail D. West was as a daughter to her. Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by 15 of her siblings. Survivors include: as a daughter, Gail D. West (Elwynn) of Jacksonville; 2 brothers, Lamar "Turner" Eldell of San Antonio, TX and Bishop David R. Eldell of Vero Beach; 2 sisters, Mother Ardile Gordon-Black (Bishop Charles) of Wabasso, FL and Aretha Brock (Deacon Eddie) of Wabasso, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held at the Wabasso Church of God on Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 from 4pm-7pm. A Home Going Celebration will be observed on Thursday, September 18th, 2008 at 11:00am at the church, with Bishop John A. Thorne, officiating and Bishop Larry Bender, presiding. Burial will follow in Gifford Cemetery - Gifford, FL. Thorne's Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
