Samuel L. Perkins, 76, of Port Saint, FL went home to be with the Lord at St. Lucie Medical Center in Port Saint, Lucie, FL. He was born in Perry, GA to the parents of the late Henry Perkins, Sr. and the late Alice Lee Wilson Perkins. At a young age he moved to Jersey City, NJ with his family. He attended the public schools of Hudson County and graduated from Ferris High School. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. Mr. Perkins was a 33rd Degree Mason and moved to Port Saint Lucie 22 years ago from East Orange, NJ. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart, FL where he served as a deacon and church photographer. He retired from the American Can Company in New Jersey as a mechanic supervisor. Deacon Perkins was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Perkins, Sr., Alice Lee Perkins and Johnnie Mae Perkins; and a son, Vincent Keith Perkins. Survivors include: a loving and devoted wife, Mary Perkins of Port Saint Lucie,FL; a caring son, Dennis Perkins (Bonni) of Montclair, NJ; loving daughters, Vannesa Bowie of Newark, NJ, Joanne Perkins-Faniel (Clarence) of Caldwell, NJ and Carolyn "Shasta" Jordan-Baxter (Roy) of Piscataway, NJ; 5 endearing brothers, William Perkins (Bernice), Benny Perkins (Brenda), McDonald Perkins, Jerome Perkins (Susan) and Henry Perkins, Jr., all of Jersey City, NJ; loving sisters, Delores White and Sandra Perkins of Jersey City, NJ and Lorraine Chalooupka (Michael) of Woodbridge, Virginia; 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. Services: Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2009 from 10:00am-11:00am at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart. A Homegoing Celebration will begin at 11:00am at the church with the pastor, Reverend Elker L.Harris officiating. Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary of Stuart, FL. Out of town arrangements are by Jackson Funeral Residence, Jersey City, NJ. Please sign the guest book.
