Obituary for Samuel Marion Christie

Samuel Marion Christie, 64 of Anchorage, AK and formerly of Stuart, FL, departed this life at St. Elias Specialty Hospital in Anchorage, AK on August 1, 2010. He was born in Stuart, FL to the late James Albert and Minnie Weeks-Christie. He graduated from Stuart Training School in the Class of 1964, then attended St. Joseph College in Jensen Beach, FL. He served two tours of duty in the United States Armed Forces and was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. His military career began on November 24, 1964 and he was honorably discharged on Nov 12, 1966. On January 10, 1967 he re-enlisted in the army and was honorably discharged on January 9, 1970. Samuel was employed with the United States Postal Service in Alaska as manager of postal operations. In 2001 he retired after 34 years of service. After retirement he worked as a course marshall for Moose Run Golf Course and as a bus attendant for children with special needs in the Anchorage Alaska School District. He became a member of St. Monica's Episcopal Church in Stuart, FL at an early age. Surviving to cherish his precious memories are: 3 loving children; a daughter, Monica R. Christie and 2 sons, Julian J. Christie and Previn Deveroux (Martha), all of Anchorage, AK; 12 adorable grandchildren; 4 brothers, James A. Christie, Jr. (Helen) of Stuart, FL, Lorenza A. Christie (Loretta) of Jensen Beach, FL, L. Bernard Christie (Della) of Hobe Sound, FL and Randolph Christie (Debra) of Port Salerno, FL; 3 sisters, Maude V. Moore, Vierie C. Wooten (Wendell) and Altamese Y. Jackson (Harold), all of Stuart, FL; a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including god-sisters, Jean Houston and Tonya Hodge; and a special friend, Beverly Christie. Services: A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at St. Monica's Episcopal Church in Stuart, FL with the Reverend Allison Spencer officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL at 2:30pm. Arrangements are by Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Anchorage, AK and Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL. Please sign the guest registry.
