Obituary for Ronald Harris

Ronald Harris, a resident of Sebastian, FL, passed away at VNA Hospice in Vero Beach, FL on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 02:45 am. He was born to the parents of the late Rudolph and Cassandra Harris in Mears Clarendon, Jamaica on December 14, 1942.  He was educated in his country and later moved to Sebastian, FL in 1973, with his wife, Leanora and daughter Shenail in search of better economic opportunities. His daughter is the youngest of four children. At the age of 58, he became a United States citizen and was honored during a swearing-in ceremony shared with 14,000 other people in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The school where he was employed as a custodian, Pelican Island Elementary in Sebastian, FL, honored him during a flag raising ceremony in the school's parking lot, while 710 students (including his daughter who was a kindergartener there at that time) watched in silence, with dignity and pride.  It was noted by the school's principal Bonnie Swanson in the Vero Press Journal, Sebastian River Area (on Saturday, September 23, 2000), that Mr. Harris was a positive role model for the children because he epitomized all of the qualities taught through Character Counts! "He demonstrated a lot of character and hard work and was a very hard working gentleman." He leaves behind to cherish his precious memories: a devoted and loving wife , Leanora Harris  of Sebastian, FL; 2 caring sons , Dexter Harris (Rosa) of Denmark and Lloyd Harris of Atlanta, GA; 2 loving daughters , Sharon Williams (Kerry) of West Palm Beach, FL and Shenail Harris of Sebastian, FL; a stepson , Odeon Shadeed (Michelle) of Atlanta, GA;  a brother , John Harris of Kingston, Jamaica and a sister , Daphney Wilson of Laurel, MD; his canine son , Ace of Sebastian, FL; a caring mother-in-law , Susan Martin of Sebastian, FL; a caring brother-in-law , Don Rene Williams of Sebastian, FL; 8 grandchildren ; and a host of other relatives including nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
