Obituary for Reverend Arthur Lee Slaughter

Reverend Arthur Lee Slaughter, 82 of Vero Beach, FL, peacefully transitioned from earth to glory on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 in Marietta, GA at Tranquility Hospice.

He was born the 8th of 10 children to the late Reverend David and Roberta Slaughter, Sr. on March 17, 1939 in Wabasso, FL.

He was raised in Wabasso and educated in the public schools of Indian County. Arthur Lee graduated from Gifford HIgh School in the Class of 1959. He was a lover of music and played the saxophone in the Gifford HIgh School Band. He was a part of the family quartet, and was also a member of the Wabasso Church of God Choir, where he began singing as a child.

During his formative years, he was worked at his family's harvesting business. The Slaughter family collaborated with both the Grave Brothers Fruit Packing Company as well as Campbell's Soup.

After graduating from high school, his travels led him to New Brunswick, NJ where he met the love of his life, Sarah Elizabeth Terrell. They were joined in Holy Matrimony by the late Reverend Menendez on August 1, 1964 in Freehold, NJ. From this heavenly union four beautiful daughters, who Arthur adored, were born (Donna, Monfia, Dara and Atiya).

Arthur founded and pastored the Pentecostal Revival Tabernacle in New Brunswick, NJ while also working with Citi Service Plastic Company. His passion for the Lord, led him to start his church in the basement of the family home in Somerset, NJ and eventually to a storefront in New Brunswick, NJ. Through his ministry, many people dedicated and recommitted their lives to Christ.

While employed with Citi Service, he and his family moved to Lake Charles, LA in 1979 for two years and then relocated to Atlanta, GA and started a successful dry-cleaning business from 1982-2000. Arthur then retired
and returned to his home in Florida, where he was able to provide and care for his brother, Albert Slaughter.

Arthur remained a faithful servant of the Lord. He joined Greater Faith Church in Fort Pierce, FL and was a spiritual father to many and would enjoy any opportunity to speak the Word of God when asked.

He was a constant presence in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. There as so many cherished memories of his frequent travels to Atlanta for the holidays, celebrations and impromptu visits. Nevertheless, his home was always open to his children.

Arthur is preceded in death by, 4 brothers and 3 sisters: Lauretha Higgs, David Slaughter, Jr., Lollie Mae Slaughter-Cummings, Juanita Slaughter-Council, Albert Slaughter, Reverend Alphonso Slaughter and Timothy Slaughter.

He leaves to mourn the love of his life, Sarah Slaughter of McDonough, GA; 4 daughters, Donna Holmes of Res, GA, Monifa Yarborough (Leon) of Alpharetta, GA, Dara Slaughter of McDonough, GA and Atiya Ellis (Tyree) of McDonough, GA; 8 granddaughters, Ayanna Kelso (Quentin), Denisha Slaughter, Imani Salau (Raheed),Dasia Owens, and Tatiyana Ellis; 3 grandsons, Daniyel Holmes, Bryson Kay, and Tyler Ellis; 4 great-grandchildren, Jacoby, David, Jenesis, and Ava-Marie; 1 brother, Nathaniel Slaughter (Geraldine); and 1 sister, Florene Brown (Edgar); 2 sisters-in-law, Lovie Slaughter and Edith Slaughter; and a host of adoring nieces, nephews cousins, other relatives and friends.

Reverend Arthur Lee Slaughter will await the resurrection at Crest Lawn Cemetery in Vero Beach, FL.

Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL.
