Obituary for Ophelia Perkins

Ophelia Perkins, 92 of Indiantown, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2009, surrounded by the love of her caring family at Martin Memorial Hospital-South in Stuart, FL. She was born in George Town, GA to the parents of the late Clifford and Gertrude Johnson-West. Ms. Perkins attended the public schools of Randolph County, GA. She was a member of Alpha and Omega Church in Indiantown. She was affectionately known by her family and community as "Mudea", "Grandma" and "Shine". Before retirement she was employed in the citrus industry. She will be fondly remembered for her "culinary expertise" which included delicious homemade cakes, pies and finger-licking good food! Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by husbands, Austin West, Charlie Perkins and Stinson Slappey; a brother, Alex Johnson and sister, Annie Bell Walker. Surviving to cherish her precious memories are: 4 sons, Reginald Bernard Perkins, Sr., Artis Jerome Slappey, Sr. (Anita) and Eugene Slappey, all of Indiantown, FL and Robert Lee Slappey, Sr. (Diana) of Stuart, FL; 4 daughters, Mildred L. McKnight (Cleveland), Willie Alice Johnson (Lenard) and Vivian E. Sawyers (Ansell), all of Indiantown, FL and Mary F. Price (Ronald) of Killeen, TX; 25 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchidren; other relatives and many friends. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2009 from 4pm-7pm at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel in Stuart. A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2009, 11:00am at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church with Minister Freddie Johnson officiating and Reverend Jack Wilson is host pastor. Burial will follow at Port Mayaca Cemetery in Port Mayaca, FL. Thorne's Mortuary, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Please sign the guestbook.
