Obituary for Ollie Carter Harvey

Ollie Carter Harvey, a well known resident of Martin County (Port Salerno, FL) and CEO of Building Bridges to Youth in Stuart, FL went home to be with the Lord peacefully at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce, FL on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 1:07pm. She was born in Stuart, FL to the parents of James Arthur Carter, Sr. and Alice Pettway in Stuart, FL on March 6, 1957.  Ollie was educated in the public schools of Martin County and graduated from Martin County High School in the class of 1975 (more educational background to follow). She was employed as a social worker with the Florida Department of Children and Families for over 30 years and as stated above was the CEO of Building Bridges to Youth in Stuart.  Ollie was a hard worker in Martin County and always willing to help people excel in life and to rise above their struggles. This concept was especially key to our younger generation as well as others. She was a faithful member of Soaring Faith Ministries in Jensen Beach, FL where she served in several capacities. She was preceded in death by a son, Philip Wade Harvey, Jr.;a sister, Caroline Geddes; her maternal grandparents, Willie E. and Mattie Mae Pettway; and her father-in-law, Alex Harvey.  Ollie Carter Harvey is loving survived by; a devoted husband, Philip W. Harvey, Sr. of Port Salerno, FL; 2 loving sons, Rashawn Harvey (Jennifer) of Kearney, NE and Daryl Harvey of Port St. Lucie, FL; a loving daughter, Ursula Harvey of Waycross, GA; a caring mother, Alice Ware of Port Salerno, FL and father, James Arthur Carter, Sr. of West Palm Beach, FL; mother-in-law, Reojah Harvey of Stuart, FL; 2 brothers, James Arthur Carter, "Bobby" of Windsor, VT and Willie Anthony Carter, "B" of Hobe Sound, FL; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and neighbors who will miss her dearly. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017, at Soaring Faith Ministries in Jensen Beach, FL from 5pm-7pm. The address: 2100 NE Arch Street, 34958.  Homegoing Services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 in Stuart, FL, 11am at First United Methodist Church in Stuart, FL. The address: 1500 S. Kanner Hwy, 34994.  She will await the resurrection at Fernhill Memorial Gardens in Stuart, FL located across the street from the church, 1501 S. Kanner Hwy, 34994. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:  Building Bridges to Youth, 720 S.E. Church Street, Stuart, FL  34994, in memory of Mrs. Ollie C. Harvey. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart.
