Obituary for Nellie Julia Hannah

Nellie Julia Hannah, 78 of Jersey City, NJ went home to be with her Lord and Savior at Jersey City Medical Center. She was born in Greenville, SC to the parents of the late Allen Parks and the late Julia Smith Parks. Nellie was educated in the public schools of South Carolina and New Jersey. She graduated from William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ with a degree in education. Nellie was employed as a teacher at the Jersey City Child Development Center and retired in 2004 after 30 years of employment. She was a member of the Cornerstone Church of Christ in Jersey City. There she served her church in various capacities over the years. She was an accomplished seamstress and has made countless, bridal gowns, clergy robes, choir robes and a variety of other uniforms for any occupation/vocation. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her devoted and beloved husband, Howard Hannah and a son, Wayne "Chuck" Hannah. Surviving to celebrate her homegoing and cherish precious memories are: her loving children, Joel, Darnell and Yolanda Hannah, Jewell Williams, Robin Baer, Joye Tucker, April Palmer and Beverly Morris; honored sisters, Hattie Abernathy, Addie Mae Hall, Theo Rose Hall and Jean Robinson; honored brother, Allen "Sonny" Parks; 28 adored grandchildren; 12 adored great-grandchildren; dear daughters-in-law, Zondra and Evelyn Hannah; dear sons-in-law, Lee Williams, Woodrow Palmer, Edwin Morris, Michael Tucker and Steven Baer; caring sisters-in-law, Naomi Crite, Susie Brown, Earlene Tiller; and a host of nieces, nephews including Reverend & Mrs. John (Anne) Thorne and the McGahee Family, godchildren, other relatives and dear friends. Services: Visitation will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009 from 5:00p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Cornerstone Church of Christ in Jersey City. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
