Obituary for Mother Hazel Pettway King

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God;believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also”. John 14:1-3

Hazel Pettway King was born on December 3, 1943 in Hobe Sound, Florida, to the late Mattie Mae and Rev. Willie E. Pettway. She was the 13th child of Mr. and Mrs. Pettway.

She was educated in the public school system of Martin County and graduated from Stuart Training School, class of 1961.

She was employed by the Martin County School District and Chevron Gas Station for a brief time. She worked for CVS Pharmacy in many different capacities, for 47 years, and through many company mergers. After all of this, she retired.

Mother King was a Christian woman and practiced her faith in the Lord by being a member of New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Hobe Sound, Fl. There she served as a Sunday School Teacher, President of the Pastor’s aid committee, Deaconess board, Mother board, Missionary board, and Church Clerk. She was affectionately known for being everyone’s Sunday School Teacher.

Late Wednesday night, June 29, 2022, at 8:50 p.m, Mother King got a call from the Master, which we all knew she was going to answer. Mother King’s work on earth ended. She was released from her earthly labor and peacefully ushered into a place of peace, joy, happiness, and no more pain.
