Obituary for Minnie Mae Powell Mother

Mother Minnie Mae Powell, 76 a resident of Stuart, FL went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Blackville, SC to Minnie Bell Harley. Albert Dean Harley (Minnie Mae's uncle), was a father to her and he considered her as his daughter. Minnie Mae has been a resident of Martin County, Florida for 59 year, and she graduated from Stuart Training School. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart and served her church as Vice-Chairman of the Deaconess Board, member of Choir #1, member of Christian Women United, the Trustee Board, Pastor's Aide member and President of Choir #2. Ms. Minnie was a hair stylist, youth choir mentor, former member of Club 400 and she also and prepared meals for the community and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include: a son, Elston McCrary Powell of Stuart; daughters, Kimberly Powell Peavy and her husband Roy of Ft. Pierce, FL, and Barbara Powell Delancy of Tallahassee, FL; a sister, Louise Harley Albritton and her husband Wesley of Daytona Beach, FL; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives including nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, neighbors and friends. Ms. Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie Smalls, Ceasar Smalls and Albert Dean Harley. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 from 5pm-8pm at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel. "A Homegoing Celebration" will be observed on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Mt. Calvary missionary Baptist Church in Stuart. Reverend Elker Harris pastor will be officiating. Burial will follow in Fernhill Memorial Park, Stuart. Thorne's Mortuary, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
