Obituary for Minnie Lee "Ma Minnie" Holmes

Minnie Lee Holmes, 106, a resident of Jensen Beach, FL, went home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2012 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love and care of her family. She was affectionately known by many as "Ma Minnie". She was born in Camilla, GA to the parents of the late James Eugene Jacobs and Irene Cox Jacobs. She moved to Jensen Beach as a toddler with her family from Camilla, GA in 1908 and attended school in Martin County, FL. During her lifetime she was employed as a housekeeper for private homes. She was a former member of Union Baptist Church in Jensen Beach. "Ma Minnie" was preceded in death by: her husband, William "Daddy Bill" Holmes; a son, Jimmie George Willis; and a daughter, Mattie "Charlie Mae" White. Survivors include: a son, Walter Eugene Holmes of Jensen Beach, FL; 2 daughters, Ruth W. Perkins (James) of St. Petersburg, FL and Margaret H. Bradley of Jensen Beach, FL; a sister, Dorothy Rivers of Philadelphia, PA; 9 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 from 4pm-7pm at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel in Stuart. A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2012, 2pm at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Stuart, FL with Elder Clarence Delancy officiating and Reverend James Watson, Jr. is host pastor. Burial will follow at Washington Memorial Cemetery in Jensen Beach, FL.
