Obituary for Mattie Bess "Charlie Mae" White

Ms. Mattie B. White, 88, of Jensen Beach, FL went home to be with the Lord on May 8, 2010, at Martin Memorial Hospital-North in Stuart, FL. She was born in Stuart, to the parents of Benny Baker and Minnie Lee Jacobs and was affectionately known to family and friends as "Charlie Mae". Ms. Mattie attended the public schools of Martin County, Florida and was employed earlier in her life as a skilled domestic worker for private homes. Ms. White was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church in Jensen Beach and served faithfully during its tenure as an usher, deaconess, missionary, and was a member of the pastor's aid. She also worshipped at St. Peter's C.M.E. Church in Jensen Beach. She was preceded in death by her father, Benny Baker, her husband, Simon White and her brother, George "Jimmie" Willis. She leaves behind to cherish her precious memory and celebrate her home going: a devoted daughter, Mary Mack of Jensen Beach, FL; devoted son, O'Hara Mackey (Ruth) of Port St. Lucie, FL; 2 caring sisters, Ruth Neal of St. Petersburg, FL and Margaret Bradley of Jensen Beach, FL; a loving brother, Walter Eugene Holmes of Jensen Beach, FL; 3 devoted grandchildren, Cecelia Smith (Jerry), Corey and Cortni Mackey; an 3 loving great-grandchildren, Reginald Dotson, Sr., Kianza Smith, Sr. (Deoshya) and Celeste Smith; her loving mother, Minnie Lee Holmes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends who will miss her dearly. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel from 4pm-7pm. A Home going Celebration will be observed on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Port Salerno Church of God in Stuart, FL, at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Washington Memorial Cemetery in Jensen Beach, FL. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL. Please sign the guest book.
