Obituary for Mattie Lue Thompson Mother

Mother Mattie Lue Thompson, 90 of Indiantown, FL went home to be with the Lord at Martin Memorial Hospital-South. She was born in Kingstreet, SC to the parents of the late Sam and Reggie (her mother) Gordon. After moving to Belle Glade, FL at an early age, she attended the public schools of Palm Beach County. She was married to the late Elder Henry George Thompson and to this union six children was born. In 1950, her husband became pastor of the Church of God in Christ in Indiantown, FL and they made Indiantown their permanent residence. As hard working entrepreneurs, they owned several rental apartments in Booker Park, Thompson's Cafe and an ice cream parlor (which later became Mattie Lue's Grocery Store). along with her parents and her husband, "Matt Lue", as she was affectionately known, was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rowenna Thompson, 2 sons, Harold and Ezekiel Thompson; 3 grandchildren, Carlisle Thompson, LaTonya Simmons and John Thompson; and 2 great-grandchildren, Otis Howe and Markeyana Davis. Survivors include: 5 daughters,Patricia Simmons (Jose') and Phyllis Rainey (Anthony), Alice Gilpin and Melba Pizarro, all of Indiantown, FL and Miriam Thompson of Pahokee, FL; 4 sons, Thomas Thompson, David Thompson (Shannon, her special daughter-in-law) and Calvin Thompson, all of Indiantown, FL and Alfred Thompson of Pahokee, FL; 60 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives, neighbors and friends. Services: Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 10am-11am at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Indiantown, FL. A homegoing celebration will begin at 11am with Elder Albert Byrd pastor of the Church of God in Christ (Indiatown), officiating. Burial will follow at Port Mayaca Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thorne's Mortuary of Stuart. Please sign the guest book.
