Mattie Lou Preston 85, of Hobe Sound, FL went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, FL. She was born in Marshallville, GA to the parents of the late William Taylor and the late Ida Lou Mathis Harris on November 25, 1930. Before retirement she was employed as a restaurant cook. Along with her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Lewis Preston; a sister, Corean Queen; Rose Mae Taylor Nedd, Susie Taylor Felton; and a brother, Folger Taylor She leaves to cherish precious memories: one daughter, Shirley Preston McGriff of Hobe Sound, FL, 3 sons, Robert Louis Preston and Gerald Preston of Hobe Sound, FL and Spencer Preston (Sheila) of West Palm Beach, FL; special daughter, Francis Preston of Hobe Sound, FL; sisters, Dessie Jackson of Hobe Sound, FL, Carrie Wiley and Mary Bryant of Stuart, FL; 5 brothers, James Harris, and Solomon Harris (Mary) of Hobe Sound, FL, Elker Harris Sr.,(Fay) of Atlanta, GA, George Harris (Liz) of Fort Pierce, FL and Willie Harris ((Fredia) of Stuart, FL; 3 aunts, Erma Greene and Fannie Mathis of New Jersey, and Janie Cole of Detroit, MI; and a host of grandchildren, great-grand- children and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 5pm-7pm at New Allen Temple A.M.E. Church in Hobe Sound. A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 1pm, First United Methodist Church of Hobe Sound, 10100 SE Federal HWY. Burial will follow at Florida Memorial Cemetery in Hobe Sound (formerly Banner Lake Cemetery). Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart.
