Obituary for Mary Helen Nesbitt Dockins

Mary Helen Nesbitt Dockins, 71 of Jupiter, FL and formerly of Hobe Sound, FL passed away at Jupiter Medical Center. She was born in Tutwiler, MS to the parents of the late David Nesbitt and Hattie Caldwell-Dockings and was educated in the public schools of Tallahatchie, MS and Shelby County, TN. In 1953, after the death of her mother, she and 3 brothers moved to Memphis, TN to be cared for by their aunt and uncle (Rev. & Mrs. Wynn). Before retirement she was gainfully employed as a housekeeper for the Tennessee Housing Authority. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. Mary moved to Hobe Sound, FL in 2009 when her health began to fail and just about 2 weeks ago relocated to Jupiter, FL. Along with her parents and those that raised her, she was also preceded in death by: her 3 brothers, John, Clyde and Clemmon Nesbitt and her grandson, DeWayne Bernard Mitchell, III. Left behind to cherish sweet memories of her are: a husband, James Dockings; a son, DeWayne Bernard Mitchell, Sr. (Carolyn) of Hobe Sound, FL; a daughter, Michelle Mitchell of Memphis, TN; 3 granddaughters, LaShanta Mitchell and Bianca Rich of Hobe Sound, FL and Precious Maxwell of Port St. Lucie, FL; 2 grandsons, DeWayne Bernard Mitchell, Jr. of Hobe Sound, FL, and James L. Dixon of Atlanta, GA; 5 great-grandsons, Brian Dames, Jr., Brette Dames, Dianchi McColister, Jr., Abrian Atkins, DeWayne Bernard Mitchell,IV; a great-grandchild, Avonna Maxwell; 3 stepsons, Derell, Victor and Kenny Mitchell and a play sister, Mary Young; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including a special friend, L. C. Pegise. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 4pm-7pm at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel in Stuart. A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 3:00pm at New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend David George Pastor and Reverend Tyrone Guthrie, officiating. Arrangements are have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart. Please sign the guest registry.
