Reverend Levan Douglas, Sr., 73 and a resident of Wabasso, FL peacefully answered his Master's call to come home, in the comfort of his earthly home, surrounded by the love and tears of his caring family. Reverend Douglas was born on May 27, 1944 in Micco, FL to the parents of the late Henry Douglas and the late Eadie Foster Douglas. He was educated in the public schools of Indian River County and graduated from Gifford High School. Since 1965, he has helped numerous inmates to reform and they likewise assisted others to do the same with the same compassion that he showed them. In 1997, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. He was employed with Piper Aircraft as a senior painter, also worked in lay-out paint scheme, paint shop helper, close-out inspector, design and develop standard manufacturing procedure for the paint shop on December 1, 2014 (currently used to date), one of two persons who ran the paint shop during Chapter 11 (1995), and was a mentor to students of the Indian River School District. In recognition of his completion of "Top Gun" Certification Classroom and Practical Training, he was awarded the "Top Gun" certificate of achievement from Dupont Aviation Finishes in April, 2009. He began his career with Piper Aircraft on March 4, 1971 and has trained all new employees of his department. He was called the silent leader of the team. He was a former employee at Ciba Research Center now known as Syngenta Research Center in Vero Beach, FL. Reverend Douglas was a member of the Wabasso Church of God, where he has served faithfully as a former Sunday school teacher, pastor of the Southside Church of God, a graduate of the Church of God Ministerial Internship Program (M.I.P), and was well-known for his electrifying deliverance when reading selected Scriptures from the Bible. By nature, he was very quiet and unassuming. He was a family man who took care of his family, a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. "Mr. Lee", as he was affectionately known at Piper's Paint Line Department, had a zest for life with kindness in his eyes, the passion for life in his voice that affected every person who interacted with him. He lived every moment of his life with the words that his mother instilled in him as a young boy, "Treat other people like you want to be treated. Everyone has good in them; you have to find the good and bring it out." Along with his parents, Henry and Eadie Douglas, he was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Peacola Green and Annie Lois Lynch; mother-in-law, Rosa Blackmon; 2 sisters-in-law, Nettie Bell Blackmon and Lizzie Blackmon and a brother-in-law, Willie Blackmon. He leaves behind to mourn his passing as well as celebrate his homegoing: a loving wife , Reba Douglas of Wabasso, FL; 3 sons , Robert Helms (Jarita) of Orlando, FL, Gerald Helms (Erika) of Vero Beach, FL and Levan Douglas, Jr. (Felicia) of Palm Bay, FL; 2 daughters , Mary Helms of Sebastian, FL and Karen Felicia Douglas of Palm Bay, FL; 24 grandchildren ; 13 great-grandchildren ; 2 brothers , Reverend James Douglas (Leona) of Cocoa, FL and Reverend Eugene Douglas (Cynthia) Sebastian, FL; 5 sisters , Carrie Benton (Clem) of Fort Pierce, FL, Vera Shephard of Vero Beach, FL, Gloria English (Paul) of Wabasso, FL, Lillian Douglas of Palm Bay, FL and Yvonne Douglas of Vero Beach, FL; godchildren , Tara Horne (Derek), Charles McIntosh and Linda Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 5pm-7pm at the Wabasso Church of God. A homegoing celebration will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2017, 3pm at the church with his pastor Bishop John A. Thorne, officiating. He will await the resurrection at West Wabasso Cemetery in Wabasso, FL. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL.
