Obituary for Leroy Holland Sr.

Four score and five years ago, April 21,1938 at 1am in Boston Georgia, Howard and Ruby Brinson Holland gave birth to their first-born child named Leroy Holland. Being the oldest of ten children he would go on to lead the pack.

At an early age Leroy joined Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Boston, Georgia. He attended school at Boston Elementary, Middle, and High School. In 1961, he met and married the “Love of His Life” Cornelia Brown Holland of Thomasville, Georgia. Born and blessed to this union were six children.

In 1964, he and his family moved to Jupiter, Florida where he joined Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. While at Mt. Carmel, he served on the All-Male Chorus, Finance Committee, and The Deacon Board.

Upon moving to Florida, he was instrumental in helping build the Indiantown Road bridge that crossed over the Intra Coastal waterway. He was a charismatic entrepreneur and he was destined to lead his own companies. He had an innate ability to grow and scale businesses, it came naturally. He started L.R. Holland Masonry, a cement construction company, built many residential and commercial structures in Jupiter and the surrounding counties. He had a love for entertaining the community, so he and Cornelia launched the infamous Savoy Lounge (formerly Mexican Bamboo) in West Jupiter. The Savoy Lounge was a real juke joint where BB King once entertained. For the last fifty years, he owned and operated West Jupiter Sod, Inc. Through WJS Inc, strategic relationships were built with: Town of Jupiter, Village of Tequesta, Palm Beach County Building & Zoning, high profile building companies and contractors, local businesses, local homeowners and more.

The impact that he has had on the community is long lasting and immeasurable. He has always been a generous business leader and his philanthropic contributions will be missed. He loved his family greatly and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. For we know that if our earthly tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (2 Corinthians 5:1) Leroy fought a good fight, He finished his course, He kept the faith, henceforth there is a crown of righteousness laid up for Him. (2 Timothy 4:7)

Preceding Him in death are: Cornelia B. Holland, his beloved wife of 42 years; his daughter, Ronda Lynn Holland Scott; parents Howard Holland and Ruby Brinson Holland; grandson, Dishaun T. Heights; brothers, James Holland and William Holland, and a sister, Dorothy Holland.
