Obituary for Leon Charles Green

Mr. Leon Charles Green, 83, a "well-known" resident Stuart, FL went home to be with the Lord at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL. He was born in Fort Lauderdale, FL the parents of the late Charles Green and Eunice Sullivan Green. He was educated in the public schools of Broward County, FL and New York City and graduated from Apex High School in New York City. Mr. Green moved to Martin County, Florida 55 years ago from New York. Leon was a member of the Lake Street Church of Christ in Stuart and before retirement was gainfully employed as a painter for Grumman Aircraft also in Stuart. He was a volunteer chaplain for over 30 years at the Martin County Jail, and was employed in security for Best Western Hotel for 10 years and was also a United States Merchant Marine for 5 years. He was very active in the Stuart community and received many accolades and citations too numerous to mention. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Leon Maurice Green. Surviving to recall precious memories are: a loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Alice Green of Stuart; 2 sons, Wellington Levet Green of Brooklyn, NY and Yocove Kevin Green of Stuart, FL; 2 daughters, Alicia Green Solomon (Tony) of Stuart, FL and Lotonia Elaine Mobley (Philip) of Jacksonville, FL; 2 brothers Pernell Green (Diane) of Stuart, FL and Ernest "Jealean" Green (Marie) of Rio, FL; 8 grandchildren. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, 2011 from 5pm-8pm at the Lake Street Church of Christ in Stuart. A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11:00am, St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Stuart. Burial will follow at Fernhill Memorial Gardens in Stuart. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL. Please sign the guest registry.
