Obituary for Jerry Cummings Deacon

Deacon Jerry Cummings, Sr. 92 of Vero Beach, FL was summoned to eternal rest at VNA Hospice in Vero Beach, FL. He was born in Columbia, AL (1 sibling out of 12), to the parents of the late Press Cummings and the late Ethel Brown Cummings on August 12, 1924. He was educated in the public schools of Shelby County, AL and graduated from Columbia Colored High School in the Class of 1946. Deacon Cummings served his country in the United States Navy from December 10, 1943-December 17, 1945 and after his tour of duty he was honorably discharged. His vessels and stations of service was the NTS, Bainbridge, MD., USS Intrepid (CV-11). After service to his country, he relocated to Florida.  He was self employed as a general contractor before retirement.  Deacon Cummings was a member of the Wabasso Church of God where he served faithfully in several capacities namely; Sunday School Superintendent,  a Trustee, Men's Fellowship, Usher Board, Deacon, Evangelism and Outreach, Prayer Ministry, Home and Community Bible Study, Transportation and Vacation Bible School. Along with his parents,  he was also preceded in death by: a daughter, Sierra Loran Taylor, 10 siblings, and a grandson, Darius Colley. On September 2, 2016, he transitioned from earth to glory and is now peacefully resting in the presence of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Remaining behind to mourn his passing, cherish his precious memory, as well as celebrate his transition from earth to glory is his loving and devoted wife , Jennifer W. Cummings of Vero Beach, FL; 6 caring sons , Jerry Cummings, Jr. and his wife, Margaret of Jamaica, NY, Jeremichael Cummings of Wabasso, FL, Leo Cummings and his wife, Kappy of LaGrange, GA, Miguel Cummings and his wife, Ashley of Vero Beach, FL, Reverend Christopher Cummings and his wife Anitra and Jevon Cummings of Vero Beach, FL; an only sister , Ida Cummings of West Palm Beach, FL; 22 grandchildren and a host of 3 additional generations of grandchildren. Services:  Visitation will be held on Friday,  September 9, 2016 from 5pm-7pm at the Wabasso Church of God, 8710 64th Avenue in Wabasso.  A Home Going Celebration will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 - 11am at the church with  his pastor, Bishop John A. Thorne, officiating. After his service, he will receive full military honors by the American Legion Post#189 of Sebastian, FL. He will await the resurrection, at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US Highway 1 North-Mims, FL 32754.  Telephone # is (321) 383-2638.
