Obituary for James Albert Christie Jr.

Mr. James Albert Christie, Jr. a prominent resident of Stuart, FL passed away peacefully at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce, FL on Saturday, March 11, 2017. He was born in Stuart, FL to the parents of the late James A. Christie, Sr. and Minnie Weeks Christie.  James was educated in the Martin County School District and graduated from Stuart Training School in 1957. He was drum major for the renowned STS band. James was married to his high school sweetheart, Helen Louise Ingram.  To this union of 59 years, four children were born. He was employed as veterinarian technician at the Stuart Animal Hospital for over 48 years.  He was a faithful member of St. Monica's Episcopal Church where he served as senior warden, treasurer, chalice bearer and in many other capacities. in his community he served for 4 terms as the Mayor of Stuart, and a total of 16 yrs. as a Stuart Commissioner, a coach for Pop Warner baseball, a representative for Stuart's youth football, a MCHS Tiger Booster, a member of the Young Men's Progressive Association an African American civic group that set a positive example in the community, a former president of the Concerned Citizens of East Stuart, and he was also an advocate for affordable housing in East Stuart, a member of the Florida League of Cities, Stuart Main Street, and several other organizations and committees too numerous to mention.  Mr. Christie had a deep love for people, his community and the desire to be a positive influence and motivator. He was quoted as saying, "I love my hometown and its people and want to serve both." Along with his parents, Mr. James Albert Christie, Jr. was also preceded in death by his brother, Marion and a daughter, Tracy Elaine. Remaining to cherish his precious memories are: his devoted wife of 59 years, Helen; his sons, Gary of Stuart, Donald (Jada) of Tallahassee, James, III (Ann) of Port St. Lucie; brothers, Lorenza (Loretta) of Jensen Beach, Bernard (Della) of Hobe Sound, Randolph (Debra) of Stuart; sisters, Maude of Chicago, Viera Wooten and Altamese (Harold) of Stuart; sister-in-law, Cecilia Hodge; 12 grandchildren, Shantia Dyle (Marvin), LaDonna Shrader (Rick), Ella, Terrence Anderson, Milton Lanier (Fiance' Danielle), Erin Christie, Janna Christie and James Christie IV; 10 great-grandchildren, Latrell, Terrel, Janeice, Mya, Jackson, Ava, Brayden, Devon, Isabella and Amaya; godsons, Marcus Christie, Kevin Bradley; and a host of other relatives including nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services: Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 10:15am-11am at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 5150 SE Railway Avenue, Stuart, FL, 34997.  Service will begin 11am with Canon Richard Barry and Reverend Donna Hall officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the outreach ministry of St. Monica's Episcopal Church, P.O.
