Obituary for James J. Bryant Jr. Deacon

Deacon James J. Bryant, Jr., an 80 year old, long time resident of Port Saint Lucie, FL died at Saint Lucie Medical Center in Port Saint Lucie. He was born in Charleston, SC to the parents of the late James J. Bryant, Sr. and the late Ivory Copeland and was educated in the public school of Charleston County. He received a certificate of service from the United States Army after having served from November 15, 1951 - August 15, 1953. Mr. Bryant was honorably discharged on November 14, 1959 after serving 8 years in the Army Reserves. During his tour of duty he received the Korean Service Medal w/2 BSS DAGO #6, Combat Infantry Badge, and the United Nations Service Medal. In 1955, he was employed with the City of Stuart. During his tenure there he received a resolution from the City of Stuart on July 25, 1988 commending him for his faithful and cheerful service rendered to the City of Stuart as an equipment operator (Resolution #24-88). He also received several commendations and accolades for service to the City of Stuart. Mr. Bryant was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ in Port Salerno, FL and served as a senior deacon. He was also a member of Mount Moriah Lodge in Fort Pierce, FL. Survivors include: a loving and devoted wife, Mother Ertha E. Bryant of Port St. Lucie; 3 sons, Arthur James Glenn of Stuart, FL, Kenneth Z. Glenn of Port St. Lucie and Philo Edmund Glenn (Hattie) of Lamburt, MS; 3 daughters, Ivory Bryant Rogers (James) of Valdosta, GA, Brenda Glenn Smith of Port St. Lucie and Carolyn Glenn Rogers (Wallace) of Valdosta, GA; 28 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, Trinity; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family who will miss his warm, kind and giving heart. Services: Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 from 6pm-8pm at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel. A home going celebration will be held on Friday, July 3, 2009 at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in Stuart at 11:00 am. Thorne's Mortuary is in charge.
