Isaac “Oscar” McCarty, Jr., 94 was born on December 22, 1922, in Waynesboro, MS to the late Nettie and Isaac McCarty, Sr. While in his twenties, Isaac who was affectionately known as "Oscar" relocated to Stuart, Florida. He has resided in Stuart for 68 years.   Oscar was married to Ora Mae McCarty, and this union was blessed with 4 children. She preceded him in death.   In 1969, Isaac joined Nola Sumlin in Holy Matrimony and they were married 39 years until her death in 2008.    Oscar was a hard-working entrepreneur owning a janitorial service, lawn service, and he was the owner of the Cherokee Motel and Bar. The Cherokee was well known throughout the Treasure Coast. The business was a social outlet and a source of entertainment for many in the community. For years, the motel provided a place of shelter for countless patrons who were down on their luck. The establishment remained viable for decades. Although, small in stature, Oscar was a giant man with an enormous heart. If he could help you, he would. He was also a man of many talents. Even though Oscar was in his nineties, he never saw a task he couldn’t conquer. He spent his spare time fixing and repurposing anything imaginable. He often said that he had forgotten more information than most people would ever learn. He was a longtime dedicated member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where he served as an Usher and Trustee; after the church merger, he joined Pentecostal Church of God in Christ. He was a member of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge No. 96. He was preceded in death by his parents Isaac & Nettie McCarty; daughter , Frankie Nell McDonald; sisters, Hazel Sumlin, Lucille Matthews, Penni Mae McCarty, Emma Taylor, Pinkie McGrew, Erlene Morgan, and Albenie Rickey; brothers, David McCarty, Wiley McCarty, and Willie B. McCarty.   He leaves behind a loving family to cherish precious memories: sons , James (Alice) McCarty of Tampa, FL; Reverend Thomas (Gloria) McCarty of West Palm Beach, FL; Rogers McCarty and Isaac “Pete” (Cynsere) McCarty of Orlando, FL; step-children , Shelly (David) Moore of Waynesboro, MS, Bobbie (David) Addison of Stuart, FL, Sandra (Larry) Taylor of South Holland, IL, Reverend Dr. Charmayne Davis of Stuart, FL, and Luther Sumlin of Jacksonville, FL; sisters , Ozella Grant of Sandusky, OH, Nettie Lee Mercer of Chicago, IL, Margerie Warshom of Waynesboro, MS; brother , Samuel McCarty of Sandusky, OH; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, god-children, nieces, nephews, cousins , and friends . Services:  Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 5pm-7pm at Thorne's Mortuary   Chapel in Stuart.  A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 1pm, St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Stuart with Elder Jerry Gore Officiating/Pastor of Pentecostal Church of God in Christ and Reverend Melvin Hymes is Host/Pastor.  He will await the resurrection at Fernhill Memorial Gardens in Stuart, FL.
