Obituary for Henry G. Dawkins Sr. Deacon

Henry G. Dawkins, Sr. of Wabasso, FL peacefully departed this life on Monday, June 6, 2016 at VNA Hospice in Vero Beach, FL and is now resting in the presence of the Lord. He was born Henry George Dawkins, Sr., on May 10, 1934 in Clio, Barbour County Alabama, to the parentage of the late W.G. Dawkins and Gertha King Dawkins. In 1954 he relocated to Indian River County Florida where he met the love of his life, Miss Verdell Jefferson. He joyfully joined her hand in Holy Matrimony on June 9, 1955 and she proudly became Mrs. Verdell Dawkins! To this union they were blessed with nine children: Diane, Ernest, Henry Jr., Terry, David, Dale, Kimberly, Tracy and Demetrus Dawkins, Being the father of a large family he was not afraid of work. He was a man of many talents and prior to retirement he was gainfully employed by the Indian River County Mosquito Control District as the driver of its insecticide truck. After retirement is loved to care for the horses at a local horse farm in Vero Beach. He, his wife and children were and are well known in his community as industrious, hard-working, business-minded people. His home and yard were always well manicured because of the talents of the Dawkins family. Awaiting Deacon Dawkins in Glory are his parents, his loving wife Verdell, a son Ernest, two sisters Louise Oliver and Rebecca Hills, and one grandson, Grady Dawkins. He leaves to mourn: 3 beautiful daughters, Diane Johnson (Roy) of Sebastian FL, Kimberly Dawkins of Palm Bay FL, and Tracy Culmer (Dennis) of Eleuthera, Bahamas; 5 loving sons, Henry Jr. (Barbara) of Sebastian FL, Terry (Cierus) and David both of Wabasso FL, Dale (Lori) of Bozeman, MT, and Demetrus (Brittany) of Vero Beach FL; 5 brothers, George Lee (Rosetta) of Wabasso, Tucker Lee (Cassandra), W.G. Jr. and Ezra (LaFonda) all of Winter Haven FL, and Reverend James (Virgil) of Polk City, FL; 5 sisters, Lexie Mae McClendon (Herbert), Bertha Ree Fleming, Willie Mae Jackson (Robert), Mary Alice Euline (Clarence), and Gertha Ingram (Alonzo); 3 godchildren Delores Brown, Belinda M. Grigsby and Dr. Vonda Jones-Hudson and Sandra Northern; 42 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, family and friends. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 5pm-7pm at Wabasso Church of God in Wabasso, FL. A Homegoing Celebration will be held at St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church in Gifford, FL 11am on June 18, 2016. He will await the resurrection at West Wabasso Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart.
