Mother Hattie Mae Slydell, 84 passed away at Vitas/ Hospice Suite, Tiffany Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation in Port St. Lucie, FL on Friday, January 15, 2021, at 10:30pm.
She was born in Girard, GA to the parents of the late Rasmus and Willie Alice Royal. She began her early education in the public schools of Richmond County, GA and at the age of 10, she moved to Pahokee, FL with her family where she completed her education in the public schools of Palm Beach County, FL.
During her life she was employed as a custodian for the Palm Beach County School District. After retirement she moved to Port St. Lucie, FL in 1993. She also resided for a short time in Augusta, GA where she lived with her daughter, Deborah.
She was a member of the Church of God Tabernacle True Holiness in Gifford, FL under the leadership of Pastor Ethel Brown. She served faithfully as the Church Mother.
Along with her parents, Rasmus and Willie Alice Royal, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Slydell; a son, Ulysses Slydell; daughters, Hattie Mae "Lucy" Slydell Nelson and Shelia Slydell Fitzgerald; brothers, Ulysses"LC" Royal, Willie Davis "Dee" Royal and sisters, Flora Lee Griffin, Mary Alice Angram and Vernell Royal.
Remaining behind to cherish her precious memories are: 3 dear sons, Larry Royal (Sandra) of Jensen Beach, FL, Willie James Slydell (Nicole) of Riviera Beach, FL and Robert Royal of Fort Pierce, FL; 3 devoted daughters, Cynthia Wright of Port St. Lucie, FL, Deborah Abner of Augusta, GA and Shirley Slydell of Belle Glade, FL; 2 caring brothers, Robert Royal (Mae Dell) of Augusta, GA and Herbert Royal of Stuart, FL; 3 caring sisters, Myrtis Barnes of Port St. Lucie, FL, Gloria Gary (Atty Willie) of Sewalls Point, FL and Bobbie Royal of Port St. Lucie, FL; 33 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL.
