Obituary for Grover Cleveland Preston

Mr. Grover Cleveland Preston, a resident Fort Pierce and formerly of Hobe Sound, FL passed away in Hobe Sound on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. He was born in Stuart, FL to the parents of the late Ernest Cleveland and Lillian Anderson-Preston on May 27, 1950.  He was educated in the public schools of Martin County and graduated from Martin County High School in the Class of 1968. Grover was a member of Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL under the leadership of Reverend Clarence Ingram.  During his lifetime, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator in the citrus industry.  He will most notably be remembered as one of the original singers in the quartet group, Voices of The South, and have appeared on programs with many recording groups including the Jackson Southernaires, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Five Blind Boys, Soul Stirrers, Swanee Quintet and others. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by: his brothers, John T. Preston, Harry Preston and Samuel Reddick, Jr. Mr. Preston is lovingly survived by: a devoted wife, Mary Preston of Fort Pierce, FL; 2 sons, Corey L. Preston of Hobe Sound, FL and Cyrus Williams (Sachiko) of Vero Beach, FL; 3 daughters, Alana Sewell (Tim) of Grayson, Georgia, Terri Milsap of Pompano, FL and Crystal Williams of Vero Beach, FL; 3 stepsons, David Jackson (Paulette) of Fort Pierce, FL, Byron Jackson and Raymond Tash (Tasha) both of Jacksonville, FL; 3 sisters, Maxine Long of Stuart, FL, Pearl Queen of Hobe Sound, FL and Yuvonne Preston Martin (Charles) of Miami, FL; 13 grandchildren, many stepchildren; a host of nieces, including a special niece, Allie Delancy, nephews, cousins, classmates and friends who will forever miss his melodious voice and soulful singing. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL.
