George Joseph Schaeffer, a 73 year old resident of Port St. Lucie, FL went home to be with the Lord on October 5, 2010 at Parkway Health Care Rehabilitation Center in Stuart, FL. He was born in Philadelphia, PA to the parents of George William Schaeffer and Anna Susco Schaeffer. George completed his primary and secondary education in the public schools of Philadelphia County. In 1958 he enlisted into the United States Air Force, where he continued his education in the field of electronics. He was honorably discharged in 1958 and received an honorable discharge from the Air Force Reserves in 1963. He was employed with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and also was employed as a mortgage broker. He was a member of New Beginnings Church of God in Fort Pierce, FL. Mr. Schaeffer was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna Schaeffer. Survivors include: a devoted wife, Joyce F. Schaeffer of Port St. Lucie, FL; a son, Martin Joseph Schaeffer of Texas; a daughter, Tia Schaeffer of Texas; four stepchildren, Daniel of California, Cornelius of Ft. Pierce, FL, Betty Ann of New Jersey and Boris of New York; 1 grandchild and 1 great-grandchild; other relatives and friends. Services: Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 from 10am-11am at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel in Stuart, FL. A Homegoing Celebration will begin 11am at the chapel with Pastor Paulette Walton, officiating. Burial with military honors and dove release will follow at Fernhill Memorial Gardens in Stuart, FL.
