George Rivers, Sr., 70 of Stuart, FL went home to be with the Lord at Treasure Coast Hospice (Harper House) in Stuart. He was affection- ately known to his family and friends as "Nick". He was born in Florence, SC to the parents of Alfred Rivers, Sr. and Lillie Mae Shepherd. George attended the public schools of Florence County, SC and moved to Martin County from North Carolina in 1968. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ in Stuart, FL and served as a trustee. Mr. Rivers was employed before retirement as a truck driver in the construction industry. He was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Jannie Gore-Rivers; a brother, Alfred Rivers, Jr. and a sister, Shirley Rivers. Survivors include: his wife, Charlene D. Rivers of Stuart, FL; 2 sons, Elder Jerry Lee Gore (Jackie), Sr. of Port St. Lucie, FL and Michael Rivers of St. Petersburg, FL; 4 daughters, Clara Bellamy (Frank)of Tabor City, NC, Martha Ballard (Perry)of Morristown, NJ, Nancy Williams and Wydeea Morris both of Jensen Beach, FL; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 4pm-7pm at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel in Stuart. A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, February, 26, 2011 at 11:00am, at the chapel with Elder Jerry Lee Gore, Sr. officiating.
