Obituary for Emanuel "Dusty" Jones

Emanuel Jones, affectionately known as "Dusty", died on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington after a brief illness. He was born to Beatrice Rose and Jasper Jones on April 4, 1944 in Okeechobee, FL. "Dusty" attended Indiantown Elementary and Middle Schools and at the age of 15 went to work for his longtime employer, Loyd Gentry, whom he remained with until his death. Dusty was a life long groom and assistant to renowned thoroughbred horse trainer, Loyd Gentry, and accompanied Gentry on the U.S. Racing Circuit for nearly six decades. Dusty was a loving and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a devoted and kind brother, and a most loyal friend. Dusty was preceded in death by one sister, Ivera Mitchell and one brother, Robert Jones. Dusty was also preceded in death by two sons, Emanuel Jones, Jr., and Teaster Wells Jones, as well as two daughters, Carolyn Jones and Michelle Antonette Jones. Dusty leaves behind his wife, Anita Hinson Jones of Lexington. He also leaves behind his first wife, Mattie Lou of Stuart, FL, the mother of his children. Dusty leaves three sons, Ozzie George, Joseph Jones and Larry Jones, all of Stuart, FL; three daughers, Ola Brown (Terrell) of Pt. Salerno, FL, Carla Scales (Sammie) and Diane Jones, all three of Stuart, FL; and granddaughters, Roshema Jackson, Dachava Gallon, Shamequa and Keosha Henderson, Raven Jolly, Arielle Jones, Crysal Ford, Ayanna and JaQuette Scales, and Meoshako Jones and Shineace Jones, all of Stuart, FL; grandsons, Cordel Jones, Trey Henderson, Jamal Christie, Carrell Gallon, Larry and Quantie Jones and Quincy Jones, all of Stuart, FL; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. While in the employment of Loyd Gentry, Dusty had the opportunity to work with many outstanding thoroughbreds including Graustark, Hail To Patsy and Lalun, both Kentucky Oaks winners and Proud Clarion, 1967 Kentucky Derby winner. Loyd and Dusty spent many winters at the Old St. Lucie Training Center, now Payson Park. Services: A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015, 11:00am at New Mount Zion Baptist Church in Indiantown, FL. Burial will follow at Port Mayaca Cemetery in Canal Point, FL. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL and Keer Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington, KY.
