Obituary for Elkanah Hepburn Bishop

On Friday, December 22, 2017 at Discovery Village Assisted Living Facility, in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, all of heaven rejoiced as Bishop Elkanah Hepburn, 88 a resident of Riviera Beach, FL and Pastor Emeritus of the Blue Heron Church of God in Riviera Beach, crossed over the portals of glory into paradise where he is now resting from his labor in the presence of the Lord. Many hearts are saddened during this holiday season as we are preparing to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, especially those of his children, Bishop Cecil Hepburn and his wife, Alice, and Bishop Darrell Hepburn, Sr. who is the pastor of the Blue Heron Church of God, and his wife, First Lady Sharon "Shay" Hepburn; and grandchildren, Darrell Hepburn, Jr., Essence Renae Hepburn and De'Nia Monae Hepburn. We thank God for the life of Bishop Hepburn and the many exploits that he has accomplished for the Kingdom and the surrounding communities along with the outstanding support of his lovely wife, the late Mother Elouise Duncombe Hepburn (November 04, 2011). As we gather with our families during this time of sharing, remembrance, celebration and love, we solicit your prayers for the entire Hepburn Family as well as the officers and members of the church. To God Be the Glory!! Bishop Elkanah Hepburn was born in Cat Island on October 26, 1929 to the parents of the late Samuel Hepburn and the late Arementha Simmons Hepburn.  He completed his primary education in the Bahamas. In 1945 he came to the United States were he moved to Delray Beach, FL while he maintained dual citizenship in the Bahamas and the United States. As a well-knowned bishop in the Church of God, and pastor emeritus of the Blue Heron Church of God his accomplishments were many which included but not limited to: Serving the Church of God at the State, District and Local levels including Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director, Musician, Pastor, District Overseer, State Counsel, Ministerial Examination Board Coordinator, Florida Bible Institute Master Pastor for CAMS, Church of God Hall of Fame.  Along with his parents Samuel and Arementha Hepburn and his wife, Mother Elouise Duncombe Hepburn, he was also preceded in death by: his siblings, Adam Hepburn, Carmetta Gaitor, Erkine Hepburn, and Frances Williams. He is lovingly survived by: his loving sons, Bishop Cecil Hepburn and his wife, Alice and Bishop Darrell Hepburn, Sr. and his wife Sharon "Shay"; 3 caring grandchildren, Darrell Hepburn, Jr., Essence Renae Hepburn and De'Nia Monae Hepburn; devoted siblings, Prescola Allen, Ruth Carlton and Naomi Seymour; sisters-in-law, Agnes Anderson Duncombe, Norma Duncombe Delfish (Dennis), and Loretta Hepburn; one brother-in-law, Reverend Donald Duncombe (Phyllis); godchildren, Esmerelda Dames, Junior Campbell, Jessica Anderson, Stephanie Ransom, Demetria Lewis and Lynn Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends who will dearly miss him. Services: Visitation:  Friends may call on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 6:00pm-7:45pm at the Blue Heron Church of God, 2600 Avenue "H", Riviera Beach, FL.  A Memorial Service will be held from 7:45-9:00pm.  A Home Going Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, 11:00am at the church.  He will await the resurrection at Royal Palm Beach Gardens in Riviera Beach, FL.
