Obituary for Dessie Mae Taylor-Jackson

Dessie Mae Taylor Jackson, 81 of Hobe Sound, FL, affectionately known as "Sug" passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2016 (6:31pm), at Martin Memorial Health Systems-North in Stuart, FL. She was born in Marshallville, GA to the parents of William "Bill" Taylor and Ida Lou Mathis on February 5, 1935.  At the age of 10, she moved to Florida with her parents and attended Stuart Training School in Martin County, FL.  Before retirement, she was gainfully employed as caretaker for private homes on Jupiter Island, FL.  Dessie was a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart, where she served faithfully as the church mother. She was recognized by her church in the year 2012 with the "Shout Out Award", from the Culinary Department, for being the "Best Dressed and "Standing Strong", on a weak knee during the pastor's birthday luncheon.  Dessie was an excellent cook and she loved to fish. She was preceded in death by her parents ; her husband , Hershey Leo Jackson,  (who passed away February 4, 2016); sisters , Corean "Hootie" Taylor Queen, Mattie Lou Preston, Rose Mae Taylor Nedd, Susie Taylor Felton, and a brother , Folger Taylor and others. Left behind to mourn her departure and celebrate her homegoing are: 4 loving sons , Hershey Jackson, Jr. of Hobe Sound, FL, Lawrence Jackson (Lori) of Port Salerno, FL, Anthony Jackson (Cathy) and Deandre' Jackson both of Hobe Sound, FL; 4 loving daughters , Bertha Harris of Hobe Sound, FL, Dorothy Williams (Wilbur)  and Deloris Jackson Johnson both of Port St. Lucie, FL and Kamelia Jackson of Hobe Sound, FL; 27 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren; 6 brothers , Joe Harris, Elker Harris, Sr. (Faye) and Solomon Harris, Sr. (Mary) all of Hobe Sound, FL, George Harris (Liz) of Fort Pierce, FL, Willie Harris (Frieda) of Stuart, FL and Willie Joe Harris of Fort Myers, FL; 2 sisters , Carrie Lou Wiley and Marie Bryant both of Port Salerno, FL; a godson , Harold Keahey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family neighbors and friends who will forever miss her beautiful smile and fashion sense of style that was all her own. Services :  Visitation will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 5pm-7pm at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 904 S.E. Bayou Avenue in Stuart.  A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016, 11:00am at New Allen Temple A.M.E. Church, 8600 S.E. Comus Street in Hobe Sound, with her pastor and nephew, Reverend Elker Harris officiating.  She will await the resurrection at Florida Memorial Cemetery (formerly Banner Lake Cemetery) in Hobe Sound, FL. Arrangements are have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL.
