Obituary for David Lee Ford Sr. Rev. Dr.

Reverend Dr. David Lee Ford, Sr., 101, of Hobe Sound, FL went home to be with the Lord on February 13, 2017 at Salerno Bay Manor in Stuart, FL. He was born to the parents of the late David and Daisy Ford in Manning, S.C.  He attended the public schools of Alachua, FL. In 1935, he was re-born of the Holy Spirit at Pear grove AME Church in Alachua. In 1937, he moved to Hobe Sound and joined New Allen Temple AME Church.  In 1938 he joined New Allen Temple AME Church.  On October 20, 1939, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Eliza Mae Bentley.  To this union six children were born. In 1967, he was called to the ministry while serving under the leadership of Reverend I.S. Jones. In 1971, he was appointed pastor of Pelican Lake, St. Andrews AME Church were he remained for 17 years. After that, he was appointed to New Bethel AME Church in South Bay were he served for 13 years.  After completing the tasks that he was assigned, he retired in 2004. After his tenure as pastor, he returned to his home church New Allen Temple AME Church in Hobe Sound, FL. Reverend Ford was a humble man of many talents.  He loved to fish and play the guitar and served faithfully until he answered the call of his Master saying:  "Servant of God well done, Rest from thy loved employ.                          The battle is fought and the victory won, Enter thy Master's joy! Along with his parents, Reverend Ford was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Eliza Mae Ford; all of his siblings; Louise Preston, Julia Bryant and Eugene Ford; and his children, Christina C. Ford and David Lee Ford, Jr. Surviving to cherish his precious memories are: a son, Rickey L. Ford (Gillian) of Snellville, GA; daughters, Eloise Ford-Wright of Atlanta, GA, R. Venessia Ford-Jackson of Ho0be Sound, FL and Ruth Fields of Bronx, NY; 11 grandchildren and a host of several generations of great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives including nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services:  Visitation will beheld on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 5pm-7pm at New Allen Temple AME Church in Hobe Sound, FL.  A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, 11am at the church with the pastor, Reverend Dr. I. F. Mitchell, officiating. He will await the resurrection at Florida Memorial Cemetery in Hobe Sound, FL. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL.  "A Ministry of Comfort."
