Obituary for Daniel Eugene Ragland Sr. Chief

Chief Daniel Eugene Ragland, Sr., 52, of Hobe Sound, FL died at the VA Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL. He was born to the parents of Sidney Kenneth Ragland, Sr. and Betty Jean Fisher-Ragland on November 24, 1955 in Columbus, OH.
His basic education was completed in the public schools of Columbus and he graduated from West High School in the Class of 1974. He continued his education at the New England School of Technology in West Palm Beach, FL and received an Associates Degree in Electronics.
Daniel enlisted into the United States Coast Guard on August 25, 1974 and was honorably discharged on February 7, 1999. In the Coast Guard he served as Chief Electronics Technician and Officer in Charge at the U.S. Coast Guard, Loran Station in Jupiter, FL. He received the CG Achievement Medal; Secretary's Outstanding Unit Award Ribbon; CG Unit Commendation Ribbon w/one Gold Star; CG Meritorious Unit Ribbon; Seventh CG Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal: and the CG Special Operations Service Ribbon.
Daniel was a member of the Jupiter Church of God and served in the following capacities: Ass't Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Pastor's Council, Choir Member, Bass Guitarist and Soundman.
Mr. Ragland was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Kenneth Ragland, Sr., stepfather, Willie Ben Shelton, grandmother, Naomi Fisher, uncle, John Fisher, Jr., and a niece, Sonya Ragland-Davis.
He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his homegoing: a loving and devoted wife of 29 years, Genevieve "Genny" Ragland of Hobe Sound, FL; 2 caring sons, George Callender of St. John's, Antigua and Daniel Ragland, Jr. of Hobe Sound, FL; 2 loving daughters, Stacey Ragland-Doyley and her husband, Sean Doyley of Bronx, NY, Daniella Ragland-Marshall and her husband, Captain Richard Marshall of Camp Lejeune, NC; a loving mother, Betty Jean Ragland-Shelton of Columbus, OH; brothers, Sidney Kenneth Ragland, Jr. of Decatur, GA, Robert Ragland (Sheila) of Columbus, OH and Arthur Ragland of Compton, CA; 5 adorable grandchildren, Michael Shane Ragland, Brianna Graman, Kaiah Doyley, David Marshall and Maya Marshall; mother-in-law, Kelcia Tonge and father-in-law, Daniel Henry of Antigua; sisters-in-law, Gracie Joseph, England, Rachael Richards, Hilda Gillon, Elaine Francis (Shaka), and Cheryl Armstrong (Erwin), all of Antigua, Doris Steele (Walcott), Hollywood, FL and Mae Henry, Ontario, Canada; brothers-in-law, Cecil Henry (Joycelyn), Elisha Henry (Sisa), Harry Edwards (Dorothy), and Maulvin Edwards (Glendina), all of Antigua; aunts, Naomi Fisher of Columbus, OH, Bertha Johnson of Longbeach, CA, Geraldine Young, Patricia Fleming and Dorcas Smith, all of Columbus, OH; uncles, Rev. Raleigh Ragland of Zainesville, OH, Carl Fisher (Anita) of Columbus, OH, Albert Fisher (Annette) and Jack Fisher (Ruth Ann) of Delaware, OH, and James P. Ragland (Alice) of Columbus, OH; godchildren, Corneisha Scott, Kamora McGraw, Daisha McGraw, Seneca "JR" McGraw, and Cornelia Rios; nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, neighbors, church family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 9th at 10:00am until 11:00am, one hour before service time at the Jupiter Church of God. "A Homegoing Celebration" will be observed on Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 11:00am at the church.  Burial will follow at the South Florida VA National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL on Monday, February 11th at 11:00am.
