Obituary for Daniel Mortimer Sr.

On Saturday, May 23, 2015, in the peace and quietness of his home, surrounded by the tears of his loving family, Daniel Mortimer, Sr. of Vero Beach, FL was summoned from labor to reward and is now resting in the presence of the Lord. He was born in Andros Island, Nassau Bahamas to the parents of the late Nathaniel Mortimer and Sarah Thompson-Mortimer on August 20, 1943. After moving to the United States, he was employed as a fruit contractor in the citrus industry. Daniel was a member of the Wabasso Church of God, who was affectionately known as "Deacon Mortimer". He will be remembered as a hard working man who loved his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, a caring father and grandfather and a "domino pro". Daniel had the biggest smile that was guaranteed to brighten up your darkest day. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Errold Bullard and Poindexter Canady; a sister, Mispha Johnson; a grandson, Christopher Wallace and a granddaughter, Keisha Brown. Daniel Mortimer, Sr., is lovingly survived by: his devoted and caring wife, Christine Monroe Mortimer of Vero Beach, FL; a loving son, Daniel Sam Mortimer, Jr. (Heather) of Wabasso, FL; 7 loving daughters, Rosemary Mortimer of Nassau, Bahamas, Tangee Johnson (Bernard), Sarah Ann Mortimer, NaShonda Monroe, Xenobia Wallace (Terry), Shakedra Houges (Jeffery) and Lacresha Jefferson, all of Gifford, FL; 2 brothers, Eithan Campell of Nassau, Bahamas and Enoch Canady (Maxine) of Rochester, NY; 3 sisters, May Ruth Curtis (Kendall), Shirley Adderley and Mary Mortimer, all of Nassau, Bahamas; a great-uncle, Izra Thompson (Curdine) of Nassau, Bahamas; brothers-in-law, John Monroe (Veronsie), Bonza Monroe (Debra), and Vernon Monroe of Vero Beach, FL; a sister-in-law, Annie Doris Jones(Johnny)of Gifford, FL; 23 loving grandchildren and 16 loving great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, church family and friends who will miss him dearly. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Wabasso Church of God from 4pm-7pm. A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, May 29th at 11am, at the church. He will await the resurrection at West Wabasso Cemetery in Wabasso, FL. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary.
