Obituary for Claude Counts

Claude Counts, 87 of Fort Lauderdale, FL went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 15, 2016, just three days after his loving wife, Alene W. Counts (Tuesday,07/12/2016). Claude was born to the parents of the late William Counts and the late Landeas Egleston Counts, in Bamberg, SC. He completed his primary and secondary education in South Carolina. Mr. Counts was inducted into the United States Army on March 22, 1951 and after his tour of duty he transferred into the Army Reserve on March 12, 1953. He received an honorable discharge on November 23, 1956. Claude graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education on June 2, 1958. He earned his Grammar Grade Teacher's Certificate-Class A from the State of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction on July 1, 1958 and his teacher's certificate from the State Department of Education on February 13, 1959. After he and his wife Alene moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL he joined St. Christopher's Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir. He was also an accomplished pianist and realtor for 32 years, a driver's ed teacher, math and science teacher. Along with his parents and his wife, the love of his life, he was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Nathaniel Counts, I; a brother, William Counts and a sister, Beulah Counts-Reid. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church - 318 NW 6th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311 from 5pm-9pm; a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at All Saints Episcopal Church - 333 Tarpon Drive also in Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. He will receive military honors and be buried together with his wife at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL; 6501 State Rd. & Lake Worth, FL 33449. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of their family's funeral home and as they were in life, they will also be honored and celebrated in death together.
