Obituary for Charles Edward Jones Jr.

Charles Edward Jones, 77 of Stuart, FL went home to be with the Lord at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart, FL. He was born in Azucar, FL to the parents of the late Edward Jones and the late Estella Ponder-Jones. He was educated in the public schools of Palm Beach and Martin County. He graduated from Stuart Training School in the Class of 1951 and received numerous diplomas and certificates in law enforcement from Indian River College. Mr. Jones moved to Stuart, FL in 1974 from Belle Glade, FL. He was employed with the Martin County Sheriff's Dept. for 30yrs, and retired as a lieutenant on January 31, 1997. Mr. Jones was a member of the Port Salerno Church of God and served as a member of the Men's Choir and the Men's Group Prayer Leader. He was the founder of the Martin County Chapter of MAD-DADS (Men Against Destruction-Defending Against Drugs and Social Disorders), the 1st African American to hold a ranking position in the Sheriff's Dept., Treasure Coast Officer of the Year (1989-1990), and the Black Image Awards Man of the Year. Survivors include: a devoted and loving wife, Mary M. Jones of Stuart, FL; 4 sons, Timothy E. Taylor (Bentheola) of Chicago, IL, William C. Durant, Sr. of Stuart, FL, Charles D. Jones (Dorane) of Hobe Sound, FL and Joseph Passanesi (Laura) of Port St. Lucie, FL; 4 daughters, Denise Allen (Andre') of St. John's IL, Kathy R. Hammond (Lorain) of Stuart, FL, Crystal Jones Chappell (Alfred) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Leslie C. Tranchese (Tim) of Port St. Lucie, FL; 3 brothers, Clarence Jones (Betty) of Cocoa, FL, Harold Jones (Ethel) of Cocoa, Florida and Fred Jones (Robin) of Miramar, FL; 2 sistes, Shepral Jones (Jerry) of Jacksonville, FL and Carol Bias of Port St. John, FL; 26 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchhildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,in-laws, neighbors, church family and friends. Services: Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 4pm-7pm at the POrt Salerno Church of God in Stuart, FL. A home going celebration will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011, 10:00am at the church with the Rev. Dr. Glenford E. Hutchinson, pastor/officiating. Burial with military honors and dove release will follow at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL. Arrangements are by Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart. Please sign the guest registry.
