Obituary for Betty C. Chandler

Betty Chandler, 59 of Melbourne, FL peacefully passed away at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, FL on April 7, 2017. She was born to the parents of the late Monroe and the late Author Ruth Chandler in Clarksdale, MS on February 3, 1958. In the early 1970's she moved with her family to Indiantown, FL and she completed her primary education in the public schools of Martin County and later attended Martin County High School. She and her family attended Evergreen Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend J. L. Gary.  Betty did mission work which included helping family, friends and strangers who were in need.  If you were fortunate enough to have known her, you also knew her twin brother Calvin because they both had a fantastic sense of humor.  They were known as comedians and would have you laughing to life. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Gray-Beathia and Laverne Chandler one brother, Willie Chandler. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her fiancée Johnny B.  Harris Sr. of Melbourne, FL; 2 children, a son, Johnny B. Harris Jr.,  and a daughter, Ruthie Hurst (Eric) of Melbourne, FL; 3 brothers; Manuel Vaughn and Calvin Chandler of Indiantown, FL and Monroe Chandler of Farrell, MS; 5 sisters; Jessie Mae Johnson (Roosevelt) of Indiantown, FL, Pastor Odessa Brockington (John) of West Palm Beach, FL, Gaynelle Chandler of Ocala, FL, Vernedeen Shanks (Robert) of Indiantown, FL and Sallie Howard of Palm Bay, FL; 2 sisters-in-laws, Charlie Mae Wilkins and Yvonne Chandler of Indiantown, FL; 6 grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and a close friend, Pat Thompson. Services:  Visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 5pm-7pm at the House of God in Indiantown.  A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017, 12 noon at Evergreen First Baptist Church in Indiantown.  Burial will follow at Port Mayaca Cemetery in Canal Point, FL.   Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart.
