Obituary for Arrie B. Parker

Ms. Arrie B. Parker, 99 a well-known resident and retired educator of Hobe Sound, FL, went home to be with the Lord at The Terrace Healthcare Facility in Hobe Sound. She was born to the parents of Landy Middleton and Arrie Robinson on March 3, 1917 in Barnwell, SC and was the last of nine children all of which preceded her in death. After completing her primary education, the zeal for more knowledge, caused her to continue her education at Florida Memorial College, Edward Waters College, Bethune Cookman University and FAMU. She was a member of The Grace Place in Stuart and also held memberships in the OES, The Heroines of Jericho and other civic and community organizations. She was an advocate of higher learning and would always encourage the young and the old to strive to learn as much as they could because education was the key to a better quality of life, and by learning more, you would have more, to share with those less fortunate than you. Ms. Parker was not a selfish person and would help anyone that needed her assistance. She will loving be missed by all of those who benefitted from her kindness in whatever form it was given or provided. She taught school at Stuart Training School, Dunbar Elementary School and Port Salerno Elementary School. Her favorite quote and song was, "May The Work I've Done, Speak For Me." On August 2, 2016, her assignment was complete, and there were no other students for her to teach, Arrie B. Parker closed her eyes and made her transition with a smile, for her work was finally done and it will forever speak for her! Ms. Parker was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband, Reverend Henry James Parker; 9 siblings; and a great-granddaughter, Latrice Ariel Irvin. Those left behind to mourn her passing as well as celebrate her homegoing are: an only child, Diana Owens (Johnny) of Hobe Sound, FL; 2 grandchildren, Yolanda McFarquhar (Charlie) and Jason Owens (Allison) of Ocean Springs, MI; a great-granddaughter, Arrie McFarquhar; a cousin, Vera Williams of Bradenton, FL; 2 godchildren, Ada Felton of Blackville, SC and Kevin Queen (Ada) of Hobe Sound, FL; other relatives, neighbors and a plethora of caring family friends and church family who will miss her dearly. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 5pm-7pm at the Grace Place, 1550 SE Salerno Rd - Stuart, FL 34994 (772) 287-6388). A "Homegoing Services" will be held at the church on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 10am. She will be entombed until the resurrection at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, 19351 SE County Line Rd., Tequesta, FL (561) 747-1100. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Latrice A. Irving Scholarship Fund, 8546 SE Mars Street, Hobe Sound, FL 33455. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL.
