Obituary for Ardile Eldell Gordon-Black Mother

Early Wednesday morning, December 15, 2010, all heaven rejoiced as Mother Ardile Eldell Gordon-Black,94, of Wabasso, FL made her triumphant entry through the portals of glory and paradise (at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL). She was affectionately known by her family and friends as "Mama Dee". Mother Black was born in Douglas, GA to the parents of the late Julius Eldell and the late Cecelia Paulk Eldell and was educated in the public schools of Coffee County. Over 70 years ago, Mother Black moved to Wabasso, FL from Georgia and was employed before retirement as a citrus contractor. She was married to the late Haywood Gordon and later after his demise, she married Bishop Charles Black. Mother Black was very well known in the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee Headquarters). She has won numerous souls for the Kingdom of Heaven through her powerful and dynamic preaching and missionary works. Mother Black was a member of the Wabasso Church of God where she served on the Mother's Board, Mission Department, and Women's Ministries. She was also a part of the Sunday School, Bible Study and Community Outreach. Along with her parents and first husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, George Anderson, Sr.; Gordon children that she reared as her own, Bishop Harry Gordon, David Gordon, Earnest Gordon, Raymond Gordon, Doreatha Holman and Missionary Johnnie Mae Slaughter; and 18 siblings. Survivors include: her devoted husband, Bishop Charles Black of Wabasso, FL; children, Charles Black, Jr. of Pensecola, FL, Charles Gordon (Tessie Lee), Ruth Butler-Walkine and Margaret Strachen (Kenneth) of Pahokee, FL; a sister, Aretha Brock of Wabasso, FL; a brother, Bishop David Eldell (Cora) of Mobile, AL; a loving daughter-in-law, Pearlie Anderson of Wabasso, FL; 6 grandchildren, Eunice Anderson, Vivian Britt (Fred), George Anderson, Jr. ( Reverend Jeanette Anderson), Beverly Wilson (Lenny), Dexter Anderson (Cherylle) and Gary Anderson (Betty) and others including the Gordon Grands; 14 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends. Services: Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 from 4pm-7pm at the Wabasso Church of God in Wabasso, FL. A Home Going Celebration will be held on Sunday, December 19, 2010, 3pm at the church with the Pastor and Vero Beach District Overseer Bishop John A. Thorne, Officiating. Burial will follow at West Wabasso Cemetery in Wabasso. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary in Stuart, FL. Please sign the guest registry.
