Obituary for Mother Annie Bell Flournoy

Mother Annie Bell Flournoy, 98, a resident of Stuart, FL, went home to be with the Lord peacefully at Treasure Coast Hospice - Harper House in Stuart.

She was born to the parents of the late Raymond and Ida Lindsey Anderson on September 18, 1921 in Elba, AL. She was educated in the public schools of Coffee County, AL. During her lifetime, she was employed as a housekeeper for private homeowners. She was a member of Love Temple COGBF in Stuart, FL.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Flournoy; 3 brothers,J.C,. Anderson, Billie Joe Anderson and Autrie Anderson; and 1 sister, M. Fannie.

She is lovingly survived by: an only son, Charles Rozier and his wife, Cynthia of Stuart, FL; a sister, Sarah Huntley of Deerfield Beach, FL; more survivors to follow.

Services: Visitation will be held at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel on Friday, July 31. 2020 from 5pm until 8pm. Adults and children must wear masks. Please, no masks, no entrance, no exceptions!

A Graveside Celebration of Life will be held at Fernhill Memorial Gardens at 11:00am on Saturday, August 1, 2020. A Horse and Carriage Procession will leave from in front of Love Temple COGBF, 505 SE Florida Street Stuart 34994, She will await the resurrection at Fernhill.

Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary, in Stuart, FL.

Detailed Obituary

Annie Belle Anderson Flournoy was born September 21, 1921 at Dannelly Crossroads in Coffee County, Alabama to Ida Lindsey and Lehman Anderson. She was one of seven children: Leo “China”, Fannie Bell, Autie, J.C., Sarah, and Billy Joe.

Annie Bell and her siblings were raised by their widowed mother in Coffee County, Alabama which was home to hundreds of Lindsey relatives. The Lindsey’s were slaves in Coffee County, Alabama before emancipation. Her great grandfather, Nelson Lindsey, was a slave. After emancipation, the Lindsey’s were sharecroppers farming the land owned by descendants of their former slave masters.

During the great depression, her mother and siblings moved to Florida in search of work and a better way of life. Finding farm work in the cane fields around Lake Okeechobee, the family eventually settled in Belle Glade, Florida. In 1936 Annie Bell came to Stuart, Florida where other relatives had moved from Alabama. Stuart remained her home for the rest of her life.

Annie Bell was a domestic worker for all of her working life. She fondly recalled the years she worked at the Pelican Hotel in Stuart, FL.

Years after her first marriage and the birth of her son Louis Charles Rozier, Annie Bell accepted the Lord as her personal savior in 1963. After joining Church of God by Faith, she met and married Woodrow Flournoy. They were married for more than 18 years before his brief illness and death in 1983.

Annie Bell was a faithful member of Love Temple Church of God by Faith in Stuart, FL. She was a devoted Mother to her only child, Louis; a loving Grandmother and Great Grandmother; Godmother; a beloved aunt and great aunt to scores of nieces and nephews.

Annie Bell was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow Flournoy, her siblings Leo “China”, Fannie Bell, Autie, J.C., and Billy Joe, Great Grandson Rashaun Rozier.

She leaves to mourn her passing a loving sister, Sarah Huntley of Deerfield Beach, FL; devoted son, Louis Charles (Cynthia). Grandchildren: Lamar (Samantha) 5 children & 4 grandchildren, Kip & Jamica 2 children & 2 grandchildren, Rodney Dooley, Courtney Rozier 3 children, Laura Cornelius, Faith 5 children, Elijah (Anna) 2 children. 28 nieces and nephews, generations of great nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a host Godchildren and sorrowing friends.

Annie Bell peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 25, 2020. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
