Obituary for Alice Gertrude Green

Mrs. Alice Gertrude Green, 86, a prominent resident and pioneer of Stuart, FL passed way peacefully at Palm City Nursing & Rehab in Stuart. She was the 3rd child out of 6 children born to the late Holcomb and Christine Hall and the last to survive. On August 3, 1931, this lovely and adorable baby girl was born in Lynchburg, VA. She was educated in the public schools of Virginia and moved to Stuart from Manhattan, NY in 1963 with her husband, the late Mr. Leon Charles Green, Sr. and their children. She was the mother of 8 children, 2 died at birth and one's life was taken. Although she was a very young bride, and against all odds, her marriage lasted 63 years. Mrs. Green was a member of the 10th Street and Lake Street Church of Christ in Stuart and a member of Parent of Murdered Children (POMC). Earlier in life, she was active in gardening, geneology, and loved to tinker around in thrift stores when she was able to. During the last five years, she was a resident at Palm Nursing & Rehab. While there, she would ride around in her wheelchair and handout magazines to the residents. Along with her parents, husband and 3 children, who preceded her in death, the siblings that preceded her in death are: Clifton, Nathaniel, Alphonso, Elaine, Margaret and their spouses. She is lovingly survived by: 2 sons, Wellington Levet Green (Vickie) of Brooklyn, and Yocove Kevin Green of Stuart, FL; 2 daughters, Alicia Lorraine Solomon (Tony, Sr.) of Stuart, FL and Lotonia Elaine Mobley (Philip) of Lake City, FL; 9 grandchildren, Michelle Green, NYC, Margaret Alicia Green, Kindu Green (Candace), Tenee Mena (Simeon), Tony Solomon (Stacey), Sidney Solomon, Sr., Dominic Solomon (Tameka), Philip Jr. (deceased), and Shanna Talicia Mobely; 8 great-grandchildren, Donavon, Henry, Clytel, Caitlyn, Anthony, Brittany, Brittani, Kara Ann, Briana, Rebecca, Blake and Tyler; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Mia, Janey and Jaylin; nieces and nephews of her deceased siblings, Charlene Sylvester (George), Karen Mackey (Alphonso), Janice Hall Given (Stanley), Lynda Calloway (Ron), Delores Worrell and Marian "Cookie" Calloway; and other relatives including a host of cousins, friends and church family who will miss her meek and quiet spirit dearly. Services: Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 10am-11am at the 10th Street Church of Christ, 1071 SE 10th Street, Stuart, FL 34996. A Homegoing Celebration will begin immediately following the visitation at the church with Bro. Terry Frizzell officiating. She will await the resurrection at Fernhill Memorial Gardens in Stuart, FL. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Thorne's Mortuary, Inc. in Stuart.
