Obituary for Alfred Shelby Gibson

Alfred Shelby Gibson, 77 of Apopka, FL, joyfully answered his Master's call on Saturday, June 12, 2021 in the early morning hour at Advent Health South Hospital in Orlando, FL.

Deacon Alfred Shelby Gibson was born June 28, 1943, in Riviera Beach Florida to the late Robert Alexander Gibson and Nolon Odell Miller-Gibson.

Alfred grew up and attended schools in Palm Beach County. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1965 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1971. He served as Sargent First Class and as an Army Medic. Alfred was also employed with the United Postal Service for 30 years.

On June 10, 1967, Alfred married the love of his life, Edna Marie Rolle. And they were blessed with one son, Antonio D. Gibson. Deacon Alfred Gibson was a devoted and faithful member of Star of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church (Hollywood, FL), Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, where He was ordained Deacon (West Palm Beach, FL), The Experience Christian Center (Orlando, FL).

Alfred LOVED his family and friends; He NEVER met a stranger. Family was so important that He vowed to keep his family together by organizing the first of many Miller - Gibson Family Reunion in July 1979. Under his leadership, the family was able to travel from the East coast to the West coast. Because of this, he was given the title "Map Man."

Throughout His life, Alfred worked and served his community in many capacities. He was an active member of the Young Democratic Executive Committee. He served with the Southern Baptist Alliance and an active Voting Poll worker.

Loving memories will always be cherished in the hearts of his loving and devoted wife, Edna Marie Gibson; Antonio D. Gibson (son), Maria A. Gibson (daughter/daughter-in-law), Alexander and Jordan Gibson (grandchildren); brothers, Ovid A. (Billy) Miller, Robert O. Gibson (Dean), Samuel N. Gibson (Brenda), Donald D. Gibson (Pearline), Ronald C. Gibson (Sophia), Thomas D. Gibson; sisters, Mary E. Foster, Frances J. Gibson, Audrey R. Clayton, Tunis O. Turnquest, and Carolyn L. Washington.

He was preceded in death by: Gratlin Ellsworth Gibson, Catherine JoAnn Anderson (Walker), Henry N. Ferguson, Elrock N. Butler, Arnold S. Gibson; in-laws: Richard Rolle (Linda), Thomas Rolle (Betty), Merilyn Gibson, Katherlene Williams, Sheryl Gibson, Joan Gibson, Valerie Rolle, Roslyn Rolle, Loretta Rolle; last first cousins: Thomas George Davis, Richard Thompson, and Rodderick Orange; the extended branches: Nikolas Green, Brittany Rolle, Michelle Rencher, Patrick Ferguson, Benford Hall, Eddie Thomas, Germain Wallace, Courtney Wilson, Christopher Orange, Sherwin Orange, Desiree Nelson, Arlando Williams, Veronica Criscoe, Dalia Tuitt, Ahnavey Williams, Valencia Williams (Deceased); a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors and church members.

He is now resting from his labor as, time on earth will be no more!
