Mr. Alex Harvey, 87 of Stuart, FL passed away at Stuart Nursing and Restorative Care Center. He was born in Plains, GA to the parents of the late Albert Harvey and the late Lucy Mae Pickett-Harvey. Alex was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, GA. He moved to Martin County, FL in 1958 from Syracuse, NY. Mr. Harvey was a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart and before retirement he was employed as a caretaker for private homes. He was also a member of Evans Masonic Lodge #72 in Stuart. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by 6 brothers, Arthur Lee, Curtis, Edward, Elmore, Rubin D. and James Harvey; stepbrothers and sisters, Uleus, Ceola, Retha, Bowman, Annie Lee, Agnes, Linda and Essie Mae Harvey and his grandmother, Mandy Harvey. Survivors include: a devoted wife, Reojah Small Harvey of Stuart, FL; a loving son, Philip Harvey (Ollie) of Stuart, FL; a caring daughter, Arlene Harris (Edward) of Augusta, GA; 3 sisters, Ella Mae Colwell (Bowman) of Americus, GA, Mary Frances Stewart of Jacksonville, FL and Janie Mann of Stone Mountain, GA; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 4pm-7pm at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel in Stuart. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 - 11:00am at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart. Burial will follow at Fernhill Memorial Gardens.
