Roy Junior Harris

U.S. Veteran

Roy Junior Harris, 63 of Vero Beach, FL passed away at his residence surrounded by the love of his caring family on October 28, 2012.

He was born in Columbus , GA to the parents of the late Roy V. Harris and Annie Mae Gunder Harris.

Roy moved to Indian River County with his family at the age of six and was educated in the schools of Indian River County.

During his lifetime he was employed as a school bus driver for the Indian River County School District.

Roy served in the United States Marines during the Viet Nam crisis and was honorably discharged on February 9, 1970.

He was employed at Piper Aircraft for over 20 years (retired in 1989), the Army Nationl Guard for 20 years (retired in 1995) with the rank of sergeant, a member of the Spruce Park Masonic Loge #676, the American Legion Post #181, and the Gifford Tigers Motocycle Club.

Survivors include: a devoted wife, Dorothy M. Harris of Vero Beach, FL; 3 daughters, Rochanda Harris of Orlando, FL, Karen E. McDew of Vero Beach, FL and Kimberly A. Jackson of Vero Beach, FL; 2 sons, Willie L. McDew of Ft. Pierce, FL and Brian O. McDew of Indiantown, FL; 1 sister, Dolly Mae Harris (Glen) of Vero Beach, FL; 2 brothers, Roy B. Harris (Tammy) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Johnny Harris (Katherine) of Vero Beach, FL; 16 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 from 5pm-7pm at New Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Gifford, FL. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012, 11: am at the church with Pastor Arthur Sanders, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Gifford Cemetery in Gifford, FL.
